Duke of Edinburgh Skills Challenge 2023
For her Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, Gwen chose art for the skills section. We worked together over the designated time frame. Gwen produced some excellent work, as well as this incredible masterpiece, from the master Jan Vermeer’s The Girl with a Pearl Earring; not only for its quality as a piece of art but also for her choice of art, as a strength behind the message (as a child diagnosed with ADS) Gwen wanted to send. Tutoring Gwen was an education for me; Gwen’s natural ability to draw and paint shone through when she was working; never needing much in the way of tuition. It was a matter of providing (and knowing that was all that was needed) the optimum environment for her, in which to perform.
